The Official SUGAR DETOX

Ok, lets do this BIG.

As with everything, there are levels, because we aren’t all built the same, and we don’t all have the same issues. The goal is to get better, better than you were before you started the detox. You may not be able to completely eliminate sugar from your diet but as long as you can make a difference in your lifestyle you are in a better position!

Here are the levels:

Level 1: Abstain
Level 2: Change
Level 3: Rev up
Level 4: Extend
Level 5: Lifestyle

 

The goal is to make it to level 5, however this may take longer for some than others and there is nothing wrong with that. Also, if you have to do the diet over and over again, to make it through each step, then by all means do that. This is not a competition, this is motivation to live better!

 

Now below I will outline each level.

(When you level up, don’t forget to pat yourself on the back!)

LEVEL 1: Abstain

  • COLD TURKEY ABSTINENCE
    • You will be eliminating processed sugar and sugary foods from you diet, completely.
      • This is the most important step and the backbone of this challenge.
  • Foods you will say good-bye to:
    • Sugar
    • Artificial sweeteners (stevia, equal)
    • Agave nectar, honey, maple syrup
    • Molasses
    • Chocolate/Dark Chocolate
    • Candies
    • Pastries/Cakes

LEVEL 2: CHANGE your diet

  • Here you will be cutting back on carbohydrates
  • You will cut back/eliminate FAST CARBS (carbs rated high on the glycemic index and usually high in added sugar)
    • White rice
    • White bread
    • Instant oatmeal
    • Cereals
    • Any product with refined flour or refined sugar
  • You will rely more on SLOW CARBS (high in fiber, low sugar, minimal processing, low glycemic index)
    • Rolled/steel-cut oatmeal
    • 100% whole wheat/whole grain
    • non-starchy vegetables
    • Nuts/Seeds
    • Brown rice/yam
    • Most fruits and vegetable

LEVEL 3: Rev-up you detox!

  • Addition of pro-biotic and pre-biotics
    • Capsules can be found in a health food store
    • You can also eat yoghurt or kefir but sugar conte
      I take an ACV shot every morning!

      nt… you may want to wait until after the detox to add this in.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar shot every morning
    • Data does show some weight loss benefit from sustained daily intake of ACV.
      • In a study done  it was shown that when subjects consumed ACV for 12 weeks straight there was definite reduction in weight, waist circumference, abdominal fat, and triglycerides.
  • Oil of Oregano
    • Powerful detoxifier, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-parasitic properties!
    • I live by this stuff
    • Can be taken everyday, 2 drops under the tongue or in a glass of water.
    • Can be purchased here:  NAHS Oil Of Oregano (this is what I use)

      This is some strong stuff. Bitter and hot so be careful!
  • Increase you water intake — to greater than 12 glasses a day **
    • Flush out those toxins!
  • Digestive enzymes
    • This is a whole topic on its own.
    • There is some belief that as we age, our digestive enzymes will diminish thus we will have difficulty breaking down foods and digesting. There are several digestive enzymes on the market that you can look into
    • One caveat is: If you start the digestive enzymes…. how do you stop them and what if you become dependent on them?
    • I personally do not use digestive enzymes, but this is a good place to add them in if you are interested!

LEVEL 4: EXTEND

  • Extend you detox
    • Can you go to 60 days, 90 days, 120 days?!
    • Kick it into high gear! Be a trailblazer!
    • Leave your comments and success stories for others to see and get motivation!
  • Convert someone you love

LEVEL 5: Make it a LIFESTYLE

You don’t have to detox forever. The goal is to change your life and the way you live it. Once you have detox and you feel better, you can try to shift things into a management lifestyle that you feel is appropriate. When you fall off the wagon, detox again, and start over.

  • Try introducing foods back into you daily consumption little by little, but don’t overdo it.
    • Keep avoiding processed food
  • But a little white rice never hurt anybody lol…
